water vapor [2 records]

Record 1 2004-11-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

Water substance in vapor form; one of the most important of all constituents of the atmosphere.

CONT

Water vapour is the source for all forms of precipitation, and, in addition is an important absorber and emitter of infrared radiation.

OBS

Water vapor is important not only as the raw material for cloud and rain, but also as a vehicle for the transport of energy (latent heat) and as a regulator of planetary temperatures via the greenhouse effect.

OBS

The amount of water vapor (moisture) may be measured in a number of different ways: absolute, specific, or relative humidity; mixing ratio; dew point and vapor pressure.

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

Eau contenue dans l'atmosphère à l'état gazeux.

CONT

Record 2 2003-06-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Physics
DEF

Water that is in the gaseous state which is produced by evaporation ...

CONT

Steam is water vapor produced by evaporation. The white appearance of escaping steam is due to condensation at a lowered temperature. It is the water vapor that shows white.

CONT

Heat water in a kettle until boiling. Hang a tray or plate in the steam or water vapor that comes from the kettle.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF
